Coaches
Nick Kirkes
I love this job. Working with people who are committed to improving their lives and aren't afraid to fight for it is an incredibly rewarding experience. As the head coach and owner of ISI, my goals are intimately connected to yours. If you want to look, feel, or perform better, than we will work together to do just that.
I didn't follow the traditional gym rat path. In fact, I was a late bloomer when it comes to athletics. I played a multitude of sports in high school including football, basketball, and tennis but was average at best. I excelled in the water - water polo being my sport of choice, but my school didn't have a team so my play time was limited. On my own, I skateboarded and made snowboarding a central theme of my life for many years. While I regularly trained with standard (poorly planned) bodybuilding protocols, I had a really hard time connecting with fitness from the gym perspective. My tall, lanky body didn't respond very well (a result of improper programming). In 1999 I started training in traditional martial arts. After a few years of study I became increasingly interested in taking my training outside of the dojo. I started studying sports medicine, nutrition, and reading up on different strength training methodologies. In 2006 I was introduced to CrossFit through a close friend. Like many, after my first workout, I was hooked. I started consuming any and all information I could find on CrossFit, then moved on to other physical training methodologies. I have since committed myself to continuous education. I hold several certifications related to fitness and nutrition, and am revisiting the academic path towards Naturopathic Sports Medicine.

Yoga Coordinator - Mimi Nguyen
Mimi stumbled upon yoga in the midst of cycling through bootcamps, group fitness classes, and martial arts. Although she enjoyed the physical challenges and activities, it wasn’t until she felt the mind, body, and breath connection in yoga that she realized what she had been searching for: an enriched awareness of the self and the potency of that connection to nourish and heal the mind and body. Mimi is a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certified Power Vinyasa Yoga instructor under the tutelage of Tiffany Cruikshank. She specializes in yoga for athletes with a strong focus on therapeutics and alignment. She continues her education in nutrition, therapeutic yoga, and the energetic body to provide a holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
